Easily update school calendar in Google Sheets

Speaking of vibe coding, here is another chatbot assisted thing I made.

An animated gif of a calendar in Google Slide. Each frame of the gif shows a new year.

It’s a calendar that you can update by changing just one cell (or two for the single month example) and it updates all the dates.

I know that there a many ways to print out a calendar but I’ve always wanted something that I could customize on my own.

I made several versions: single month, calendar year, school year, etc. To customize, look for the drop-down or “change me” note in the cells.

Once you get the calendar layout and dates that you want, you can also download the sheet as a PDF.

If you would like to add other visual elements, you can upload the PDFs to Canva.

As an aside, I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who could tell you what day of the week it was if you were given a specific date. I’ll never be able to do that but this project did have me thinking about the patterns in calendars. For example, I started to notice that some months had the same layout. This led me to a Big Think post by Ethan Seigel about his one-page calendar.

Ethan wrote:

Using the one-page calendar for 2025, you can figure out the day-of-the-week of any calendar day by placing one finger on the “date” at left and another on the “month” at top. By moving your fingers respectively to the right and down, where they meet will reveal the day of the week to you.

Whoa! This kind of blew my mind. What’s even better is that a group on the r/googlesheets subreddit made a Google Sheets version of Ethan’s calendar! Time.is also has this cool interactive version.
